New Delhi, Jul 13 (PTI) A man wanted in connection with a kidnapping and robbery case was arrested by the Delhi Police after evading capture for nearly a year, an official said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Kisan Moorat (45), a resident of Baba Haridas Nagar, was the main conspirator in a case registered in Nangloi in August 2024, police said.
"Three of his accomplices were arrested earlier," said the officer.
Moorat, who previously worked as a technician for a power distribution company on a contract basis, allegedly devised a plan with his accomplices to rob a jeweller, Darshan, under the pretence of assisting him in retrieving his pledged gold from a finance company, the police stated.
"After retrieving the gold, Darshan was intercepted by the accused and his associates, who allegedly posed as policemen, bundled him into a car, snatched the gold and cash and later abandoned him on the roadside," said the officer.
The officer added that Moorat initially posed as a victim himself and urged Darshan not to report the incident to the police. However, when the jeweller grew suspicious and called for assistance, Moorat fled and went into hiding.
An FIR was filed, and further investigation commenced. "Despite sustained efforts, Moorat remained elusive, frequently changing his hideouts between Uttar Pradesh and Bihar," the officer said.
A team was assigned to locate the fugitive. Technical surveillance led them to his suspected hideout in Baba Haridas Nagar. A raid was conducted on July 11, during which Moorat, who had recently returned from Partapgarh, was apprehended.
Police also noted that Moorat is a suspect in a separate cheating case. Further investigation is ongoing.
