MP govt mulling unified payment card for Indore public transport

Indore, Jul 10 (PTI) The Madhya Pradesh government is contemplating the introduction of a unified payment card for multi-purpose public transport in Indore, an official said on Thursday.
This card would permit commuters to use various modes of transport, from metro rail to e-rickshaws, he said.
"We are studying the introduction of a Uniform Mobility Card (UMC) for the public transport payment system. Initially, the card would be launched for metro rail and buses, with app-based cab services and e-rickshaws potentially being integrated later," Sanket Bhondwe, Commissioner of the Urban Administration and Development Department, told reporters.
Discussions about the proposed UMC have been held with Mumbai-based National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), he added.
He also said the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) could provide a loan of Rs 50,000 crore to the Madhya Pradesh government in the near future to assist in financing urban local bodies.
Bhondwe also reviewed preparations for 'Madhya Pradesh Growth Conclave' to be held here on Friday.
Officials said Chief Minister Mohan Yadav would inaugurate the conference, which focuses on urban development schemes, and interact with key investors from sectors such as the hotel industry, tourism, real estate, and infrastructure.
Over 1,500 investors, industrialists, and corporate representatives are expected to attend the one-day conference, they added.
