CM Stalin says students must never go on path of 'Godse's camp'

    Tiruchirappalli (Tamil Nadu), Jul 9 (PTI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Wednesday said students must never go on the path of Godse and they need to have an understanding about politics.
    Speaking at an event to mark the start of Jamal Mohamed College’s 75th year in Tiruchirappalli, the Chief Minister expressed that meeting young students always energises him.
    Stalin said college founders Hajee M Jamal Mohamed Sahib and N M Khajamian Rowther followed the Gandhian path. Hence, he said, "There are several pathways for us, like the way shown by Gandhiji, Dr Ambedkar, and Periyar. You students should never go on the path of Godse's camp."
    Stressing the importance of education, Stalin said it is their "permanent asset" and said if "Tamil Nadu came together as a single team," no one can trounce the state. He said he was not "talking politics," but wanted to underline that students need to have an understanding about politics.
    On July 3, the ruling DMK kickstarted a 45-day door-to-door membership campaign nicknamed "Oraniyil Tamil Nadu" (Tamil Nadu as a single team) across the state. Through the drive, DMK aims to enroll 30 percent of voters in every polling station. On July 1, he launched the Oraniyil Tamil Nadu (OTN) campaign.
The CM had said that the OTN comprised the election campaign, membership enrolment drive, canvassing the "DMK government's achievements, and the Centre's betrayal of Tamil Nadu" as well. It is to bring together the people to protect the state's language and honour.
    The chief minister said alumni of the Jamal Mohamed College, K N Nehru, and M R K Panneerselvam are senior ministers, and "tomorrow some of you may be part of that list and you should make it and may support Tamil Nadu's growth."
    For the Dravidian model government, the growth of Tamil Nadu and its people is important, and that is why the government is giving importance to education and implementing a lots of schemes.
    It includes the Rs 1,000 monthly support scheme for students, both men and women, to help them complete their undergraduate degree courses. Soon, 20 lakh students would get laptops.
    Stalin, also the ruling DMK President, asserted that his party will always protect the political rights of Muslims. "This is my assurance to you," he said.
