Woman jumps into sea in Mumbai constable saves her life and earns praise for brave act

Mumbai, Jul 3 (PTI) A 53-year-old woman facing psychological issues jumped into the Arabian Sea at the Bandra Bandstand here, but an alert police constable rescued her by diving into the water, officials said on Thursday.
The incident took place around 5 pm on Wednesday, they said.
After being rescued, the woman was admitted to a hospital and her condition is stable, an official said.
"Constable Sainath Devde was posted as a watcher at the Galaxy Apartment, where Bollywood actor Salman Khan resides, and was on patrolling duty at the Bandstand promenade. He spotted a woman was drowning in sea. He immediately reached the shore and rescued her by jumping into the water," he said.
The woman was in a semi-conscious condition after being pulled out of water, and was rushed to a civic-run hospital, he said.
According to the police, the woman, who is a resident of Bandra west, has been undergoing treatment for psychological issues for the last 20 years.
"While walking at the Bandstand, the woman got scared as she felt that she was being chased by some invisible power and jumped into the sea," the official said.
The constable's quick response and presence of mind earned praise from netizens as the Mumbai police put a post about the incident on its official X handle.
