BRS ‘dead snake’ Telangana CM dares KCR to attend Assembly for discussion on river water issues

Hyderabad, Jun 24 (PTI) Terming the opposition BRS as a “dead snake,” Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Tuesday dared former CM K Chandrasekhar Rao to write to the Assembly Speaker to convene the House for a discussion on Godavari and Krishna water issues.
Addressing a gathering during the 'Rythu Nestham' programme here, Reddy also said that Telangana has conveyed to the Centre that it would approach the Supreme Court if the proposed Godavari-Banakacherla (G-B) river linking project by the Andhra Pradesh government is allowed to proceed.
Attacking the BRS, Reddy said the opposition party lost power in the 2023 Assembly polls and its candidates even lost deposits in last year's Parliament elections. The party, he said, could not even find candidates to contest the MLC polls.
“The BRS is dead in Telangana. That dead snake is now trying to stir sentiments using the Godavari water issue. I challenge former Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao—write a letter to the Speaker. We will convene an Assembly session to discuss the Godavari and Krishna water issues,” Reddy said at the meeting.
The BRS is trying desperately to revive itself in Telangana using the Godavari water issue, he alleged.
The Banakacherla river linking project by the neighbouring state has triggered a political storm in Telangana, with the state government expressing concerns and approaching the Centre to stall it.
The opposition BRS has accused the Congress government of remaining silent while Andhra Pradesh is "taking away Telangana's waters."
Hitting back, CM Revanth Reddy asserted that the Congress government would never compromise on Telangana's rightful share of resources.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had earlier clarified that the Polavaram (Godavari)-Banakacherla project is intended to divert surplus Godavari water to drought-hit regions of Andhra Pradesh.
