Gwalior, May 4 (PTI) Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar said on Sunday that a powerful India is tackling the Pahalgam terror challenge under an able leadership.
Addressing faculty members and students of the Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Agriculture University in Gwalior, the vice president said, "Bhartiyata is our identity and there is no dharma above Rashtra Dharma".
"Rajamata's life was an inspiration. She lived a life of sacrifice and dedication. Today, Bharat is facing the Pahalgam challenge....but today there is a powerful Bharat with an able leadership," he said.
Twenty-six persons, mostly tourists, were brutally gunned down by terrorists in Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, heightening tensions between India and Pakistan.
"Rajmata's inspiration was that nationalism is of paramount importance. We are Bhartiya and Bhartiyata is our identity. There is no dharma above the Rashtra Dharma," the vice president said.
Vijayaraje Scindia, a royal from Gwalior during the British raj, was one of the founding members of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Dhankhar appealed to students to keep the nation above all interests.
"Always keep the nation first. Nothing is more important than the national interest," he added.
He said Vijayaraje always stood firmly for nationalism and dedicated herself to the service of the nation.
The Vice President emphasised the critical role of farmers in making India a developed nation.
"The road to a developed India goes through the agricultural fields of our farmers. India has always been an agriculture-oriented nation, and we now stand on the brink of an agricultural revolution that will shape our future," the vice president added.
Dhankhar stressed the importance of being sensitive to the plight and pain of farmers.
"We must work towards transforming our farmers from mere producers into 'agripreneurs'—agriculture entrepreneurs," he added.
He recalled former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri's slogan, ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’, which was later expanded by Atal Bihari Vajpayee to include ‘Jai Vigyan’, and now further advanced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhaan’.
Dhankhar appealed to scholars and students to act proactively to realise this vision through innovation, scientific applications, and research.
"All of you should act proactively on this vision and ensure that this slogan bears fruits through innovation, scientific application and research," he added.
He said the Union government is keen to ensure the welfare of farmers and making concerted efforts to ensure agriculturists don't face any difficulties.
Praising Union Agriculture Minister and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Dhankhar said Chouhan deeply understands the struggles of farmers and has established a meaningful dialogue with them.
"The farmers are recognising the Union government’s sincere efforts. What was never done before is now being accomplished for their welfare," he added.
