Kolkata, Nov 4 (PTI) Battery maker Exide Industries Ltd on Wednesday reported a 75 per cent year-on-year increase in standalone

Kolkata, Nov 4 (PTI) Battery maker Exide Industries Ltd on Wednesday reported a 75 per cent year-on-year increase in standalone net profit to Rs 386 crore for the second quarter ended September 30, 2026, driven by strong demand across its businesses.

The company had posted a standalone net profit of Rs 221 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal, Exide Industries said in a statement.

Consolidated net profit rose 65 per cent to Rs 287 crore during the quarter under review.

Standalone revenue from operations increased 20.3 per cent to Rs 5,026 crore from Rs 4,178 crore in the year-ago period.

EBITDA rose 53.6 per cent to Rs 606 crore, while EBITDA margin expanded 270 basis points to 12.1 per cent.

For the first half of FY27, net profit rose 46.7 per cent to Rs 794 crore, and revenue grew 18.9 per cent to Rs 10,331 crore, it added.

The company said growth was broad-based, aided by healthy demand, the benefits of GST rationalisation, and cost optimisation measures.

Its automotive OEM business grew over 25 per cent for the fourth straight quarter, while home inverters and solar segments grew over 20 per cent.

Exports also rose over 20 per cent on a low base.

Exide said input costs remained elevated due to geopolitical tensions, especially in West Asia, while the full benefit of softer lead and antimony prices could not be realised because of a weaker rupee.

"We enter the festive season with healthy demand indicators. At the same time, we remain mindful of the high base of last year's post-GST demand surge and continue to closely monitor input costs," Managing Director and CEO Avik Roy said.

The company, which has zero debt, infused Rs 550 crore of equity into its wholly owned subsidiary Exide Energy Solutions Ltd between April and October 2026, taking the cumulative investment to Rs 5,352 crore.

Exide Energy Solutions completed commissioning of a 6 GWh lithium-ion cell gigafactory in Bengaluru on September 23.

Roy said the focus in the coming quarters would be on stabilising the lines, improving yields and completing customer qualifications.

The company also signed a long-term strategic cooperation agreement with Germany's ExCom Energy Solutions GmbH to grow its industrial battery and energy storage business in the European Economic Area.
