Bhopal, May 5 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday welcomed the Centre's decision to approve the Nagda-Mathura third and fourth rail lines, saying on completion the projects will provide a boost to tourism and logistics sectors.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved three projects costing about Rs 23,437 crore of the Railway Ministry, including the third and fourth lines between Nagda (MP) and Mathura (Uttar Pradesh), a 568-km-long corridor.
It is noteworthy that these projects will facilitate rail connectivity to major tourist destinations such as Ujjain, which houses the famous Mahakaleshwar Temple, and the Kuno National Park (KNP) in Sheopur district, home to African cheetahs.
They will also provide a new impetus to the development of logistics and tourism sectors, the CM said.
In a statement, Yadav said these initiatives will strengthen the local economy and expressed his gratitude to PM Modi and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for approval of the rail projects.
The CCEA has decided to approve multi-tracking projects under 'PM Gati Shakti' to enhance the capacity of the rail network and strengthen the country's infrastructure.
The completion of three important multi-tracking projects worth approximately Rs 23,437 crore will enhance connectivity in 19 districts spread across Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
This will increase train speeds on busy routes, reduce congestion, and enable the movement of an additional 60 million tons of freight annually. Approximately 83 lakh people in the six states will directly benefit from this, said the central government.
The proposed train capacity increase through the approved projects will improve rail connectivity to several major tourist destinations, including Mahakaleshwar, and KNP (both in Madhya Pradesh), as well as Ranthambore National Park, Keoladeo National Park, Mathura, Vrindavan, Mantralayam (Sri Raghavendra Swami Math), Sri Netikanti Anjaneya Swami Vari Temple (Kasapuram), Shyamnath Temple, and Naimisharanya (Neemsar) in Rajasthan, it added.
The proposed projects are crucial for the transportation of commodities such as coal, food grains, cement, oil, iron and steel, iron ore, containers, and fertilisers, the government said.
