Episode 01: Decoding Delhi Politics

In this episode of Explained, our Senior Special Correspondent Soni Mishra takes a deep dive into the politics that drive the Delhi elections, set to take place on February 8. This is a crucial one for the BJP. The party has been out of power in the national capital since 1998. It suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of AAP in 2015, and managed to win just three seats as opposed to AAP's 67. The party is fighting the polls with allies Janata Dal (United) and Lok Janshakti Party. The BJP has allotted two seats to the JD(U) and one to the LJP. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the BJP's allies in Punjab, opted out of the race after a fallout over the citizenship amendment act. With the AAP looking to make a comeback, and the Congress attempting to make up for lost ground, the results of the polls will prove crucial in more ways than one.
