A 24-year-old Polish man named Michał O., influenced by far-right extremist views, killed six people and injured 15 others in a mass shooting at Kraków's Old Market Square before authorities uncovered three additional bodies at his family residence.

The 24-year-old Polish man suspected of the Kraków shooting has been identified as Michał O. According to Polish media, Michał was from Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. Influenced by far-right extremist views, he killed six people after driving into the Old Market Square and opening fire on passersby from his car.

In the shooting incident, 15 others were injured, including two responding police officers (one critically shot three times).

Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński stated the suspect held "very radical," "ultra-nationalistic" views.

He executed the attack wearing military-style tactical camouflage fatigues and a bullet-resistant vest. However, according to official statements from Poland's Ministry of National Defence (MON), the suspect is not a soldier in the Polish Armed Forces and has never had any connection to the military.

Polish Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz explicitly clarified this status to dispel early rumours suggesting a military background.

Also, he held a valid permit for two firearms, while his 52-year-old father possessed 11 registered weapons, Onet, a local Polish media outlet, reported.

The shooter used an AR-15-style automatic rifle and carried multiple additional firearms and ammunition inside his vehicle (a black Subaru registered to his father).

Police are investigating the area of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, where Michał O. lived. Counter-terrorism officers are also searching his apartment, where three bodies were discovered.

Onet reported that the man's neighbours said he lived with his parents and sister.

"He was a normal boy. Wore a hoodie, said hello. I can't say anything bad about him," said one of his neighbours. Media reports said that neighbours described the family as peaceful, with no history of conflict.

Neither Michał O. nor his father had any previous criminal record or prior interactions with law enforcement.

He used his father's black Subaru to carry out the attack and drive into the Main Market Square.

Following a search of his residence in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, police discovered three bodies, which Onet reported are believed to be his mother, father, and sister.

Officers from the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) have joined the investigation to analyse Michał O.'s online activity, looking into whether he belonged to radical online groups or expressed extremist rhetoric prior to the attack.
