US President Donald Trump, who is reeling from the election rout, has reportedly decided on the administration official who will have to take the blame for the mid-term drubbing.

Reports hint that though knives are out for White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the President has decided on the name who will have to bear the consequences: Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Though political pundits believe the ultimate responsibility rested with Trump himself for taking the country into a war, one or two of the officials will have to go, to signal to the public that the President is indeed focused on changing direction.

A Trump advisor told Axios that “Hegseth is definitely on thin ice”, due to multiple reasons, ranging from the unpopular war in Iran to his bad bipartisan relations with members of Congress. “Hegseth is definitely on thin ice," he added.

Not just these, many, including Vice President JD Vance, believe that even Trump was given information about many Middle East updates only after it happened. For instance, Trump wanted to know Iran's surface-to-air defences and missiles had not yet been destroyed, after Hegseth had claimed on several occasions that the US military had eliminated them.

Senior Republicans state that Hegseth is likely to be gone before the new Congress is sworn in next January, as Trump doesn’t want the new replacement to go through the Democratic-majority Senate.

There is also a fear in the Conservative quarters that the incoming Democratic House would go after Hegseth, like an impeachment and subsequent Senate trial, which the Republicans want to avoid. Kentucky Democrat Thomas Massie has already warned that he plans to trigger a vote to impeach Hegseth when Congress returns next week.

However, the White House has, of course, officially dismissed it. Spokeswoman Anna Kelly said the President retains full confidence in Hegseth.

Susie Wiles to go?

Not just Hegseth; even Susie Wiles is facing pressure from GOP leaders to quit. “Susie Wiles should be fired tomorrow!” white nationalist podcast host Nick Fuentes said on Tuesday night, accusing the “deputies for the White House” of “being in Bosnia while this bloodbath was going on, making money from foreign governments.”

“[Wiles] should be fired immediately,” he continued. “Vance and Rubio should never get close to the nomination in 2028. That’s the point. That’s why we’re doing this. These people should be investigated. They should go to jail. They should lose their jobs. They should have no political future.”

Caroline Sunshine, a former press assistant for Trump, is calling for White House chief of staff Susie Wiles to resign. “I’m going to say publicly what a lot of people are saying privately. Susie Wiles needs to resign,” Sunshine told Fox News’ Jesse Watters Wednesday night. “She needs to offer her resignation to the president before he has to ask for it.”
