A horrible video of a traffic accident from Thailand has surfaced on the internet that shows a speeding pickup truck ramming into a Buddhist monk procession. Shockingly, it was a child behind the wheel of the vehicle when the tragic incident happened.
The viral video showed the Buddhist monks proceeding slowly by the roadside when the speeding truck came out of nowhere. The heartbreaking video captured the monks being hit one after the other, and some being stuck on the top of the vehicle. The monks up front, who got lucky by the slightest of margins, were captured in shock — unable to react.
While five victims died on the spot, four others reportedly succumbed while undergoing treatment. Three others remain in a critical condition and at least five others were seriously hurt. Several others are said to have suffered minor injuries.
According to Western media, the accident was reported in the Thai town of Mukdahan in the north-east, situated about 650km from Bangkok.
Law enforcement are yet to question the boy because he remained in a state of shock and was unable to provide a statement, The Guardian reported. They have not filed any charges as investigators were still in the process of figuring out how the child got inside the truck and managed to drive it before crashing.
It is believed that the boy managed to enter the pickup and start it without permission. When the boy's guardians realised the car was missing, they had notified the police. According to the BBC, the boy remained at home citing illness. When the situation offered a chance, the boy is said to have slid out of the home with the truck.
The vehicle has been taken for forensic examination to determine the cause.
