US President Donald Trump has set tongues wagging when he reposted a bizarre take on birthright citizenship by controversial radio host Michael Savage. In the post, Savage, a right-wing radio “shock jock” with the second-most popular show in the United States, used a disparaging remark against India and China, calling them “hellholes”, which was endorsed by Trump himself.

In a letter posted on social media, Savage said he had been listening to the arguments before the US Supreme Court on birthright citizenship. Addressing the lawyer who defended birthright citizenship as a “Chinese-American who is a classic ALCU attorney”, Savage added: “A baby here becomes an instant citizen, and then they bring in their entire family from China, or India or some other hellhole on the planet. You don’t have to go too far to see that. English is not spoken here anymore,” he said.

Savage added that unlike the Asians, Europeans intergrated into the US culture.

This derogatory remark was soon reposted by US President Donald Trump on his TruthSocial platform. The President’s gesture came a day after he made false claims about birthright citizenship in an interview with CNBC on Tuesday morning. During an interview, Trump repeated his long-debunked lie that “no country in the world” offers birthright citizenship other than the United States. In fact, about three dozen countries provide automatic citizenship to people born on their soil, including US neighbors Canada and Mexico and the majority of South American countries.

Who is Michael Savage?

A famous radio host, Savage, has been pro-Trump and often courted controversy for his comments, including a ban from the UK. He hosted The Savage Nation, one of the top-rated radio shows in the U.S. for years, and is a bestselling author. He has been very vocal, often crossing the lines of decency, on his comments against Democrats, illegal immigrants, Left-wing judges, transgender rights and even Barack Obama, whom he calls “Afro-Leninist”.

His controversial comments include ones on Hillary Clinton. “We will live in an outright criminal regime,” he said in 2016. His other remark was on Obama: “It will take decades for the U.S. to recover from the Democrat-socialist Marxist”, he calls “Maobama.”

After he was elected as President for the first time, Trump made a point of calling Savage  to the show to chat about the campaign and thank the host for being “so loyal” to him. “You’ve changed the national dialogue; you’ve changed the course of human history,” responded Savage.
