Prime Minister Narendra Modi held wide-ranging talks with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday, as part of a high-level visit to the Southeast Asian country. The discussions, held at the Perdana Putra building in Kuala Lumpur, were attended by ministers and delegations from both sides.

The talks are expected to focus on strengthening defence and security ties, as well as enhancing economic and innovation partnerships. The two sides are likely to sign several agreements aimed at boosting cooperation across key sectors, including semiconductors.

Following his meeting with Ibrahim, Prime Minister Modi emphasised that India and Malaysia share a "special relationship" and expressed both sides' commitment to expanding cooperation across diverse sectors. He also reiterated India's firm stance on combating terrorism, stating, "Our message on terrorism is clear: no double standards, no compromise."

Upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur, Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome and a Guard of Honour. Prime Minister Ibrahim personally welcomed him at the airport, where Malaysian Minister of Human Resources Ramanan Ramakrishnan and Deputy Foreign Minister Lukanisman bin Awang Sauni were also present.

"Deeply touched by the warm welcome extended by my friend, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim at the airport. I look forward to our conversations and to further strengthening the bonds of friendship between India and Malaysia," Modi wrote on X after his arrival.

Later, both leaders travelled together in the same vehicle to attend an event with the Indian community in Kuala Lumpur, which was also attended by Prime Minister Ibrahim.

Earlier, in his departure statement, Modi had highlighted the steady progress in the historic ties between India and Malaysia in recent years. “We will aim to deepen our defence and security ties, enhance our economic and innovation partnership, and expand our collaboration into new domains,” he had said.
