The newly elected New York mayor, Zohran Mamdani, faced heat after his mother's name popped up in the Epstein Files. Mamdani's supporters heckled him outside his official residence, Gracie Mansion.
Filmmaker Mira Nair was mentioned in the latest records of the Epstein emails released by the Department of Justice.
Videos that circulated on social media showed NYC residents gathered outside Gracie Mansion and yelling, 'shame'.
"We advocated for you. We voted for you...We know about your mom," said a protester. Those who claim to be his 'supporters' accused Mamdani of lying to them.
Nair's name appeared in the Epstein email connected to a 2009 social event hosted at the house of convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. The email says that Nair attended an "after party" for a film screening along with high-profile people, including Bill Clinton and Jeff Bezos.
"Just left Ghislaine's townhouse... after party for film. Bill Clinton and Jeff Bezos were there...Jean Pigozzi, director Mira Nair...Film received tepid reaction, although women like it much more," the email read.
Zohran Mamdani assumed office as New York City's mayor on January 1 after defeating former governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa in the mayoral election.
The US Department of Justice published more than three million additional pages of Epstein-related records under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed into law by President Donald Trump on November 19, 2025. Over 2,000 videos and 1,80,000 images were made public.
The latest email also included the names of Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Ivanka Trump, and Sarah Ferguson.
