A domestic dispute turned violent in the US state of Georgia on Friday morning as an Indian national shot his wife and her relatives dead, according to the Indian mission in Atlanta.
The Consulate General of India in Atlanta said that the alleged shooter has been arrested.
The shooting left four people dead. Local reports did not confirm the nationality of the victims, but at least one of the was an Indian national.
Police arrived at the Lawrenceville home after a child who hid inside the house during the crime called the cops to report gunfire, Gwinnett County authorities said. The call was made around 2.30 am local time on Friday from the 1000 block of Brook Ivy Court. Authorities found the four victims, all dead from gunshot wounds.
They also found three children who survived the incident after hiding inside a closet. They were uninjured.
The suspect was identified as 51-year-old Vijay Kumar. Police said he was arrested without incident in a wooded area a short distance away from the house.
His wife, Meemu Dogra, was one of the victims. The other victims were identified as Gourav Kumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38. All four of the victims were in some way related to the suspect, according to police who spoke to CBS News.
A family member came home to pick up the children. Police are now investigating the motive for the shooting.
Vijay Kumar was charged with four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of felony murder, four counts of malice murder, one count of cruelty to children in the 1st degree, and two counts of cruelty to children in the 3rd degree, according to the report.
