Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has become the first Australian leader to get married while in office after he tied the knot with his partner Jodie Haydon on Saturday.

The two got married in an intimate and secretive ceremony at The Loge in Canberra. The wedding was attended by close friends, family and a few select ministers.

Who is Jodie Haydon?

Albanese, who is 62, and Jodie, 45, had been in a relationship for five years. He proposed to her on Valentine's Day last year.

Jodie Haydon was born in 1979. She had worked in the superannuation industry spanning 20 years in Banking and finance companies. In 2022, she was hired as a women’s officer after she was a union delegate for the NSW Public Service Association. She was born to school-teacher parents in Sydney, but grew up on the Central Coast.

As of now, she is the head of strategic partnerships at Teachers Mutual Bank.

The two met at a dinner event in Melbourne in March 2020. Haydon had yelled “up the Rabbitohs’ while Albanese was speaking at the event, referring to his favourite South Sydney Rabbitohs rugby league team.

Haydon said that she realised she was in love when Albanese got into a car accident in 2021.

Haydon had accompanied Albanese during the Australian federal election campaign both in 2022 and 2025.

Albanese had separated from his wife of 19 years, Carmel Tebbutt, in early 2019.

The wedding was kept a secret, including the date and the location, due to security concerns.

Haydown was walked down the aisle by her parents Bill and Pauline. Her five-year-old niece was the flower girl, and Albanese’s dog Toto was the ring bearer.
