A suicide car blast outside a court in Islamabad killed 12 and injured 27 people on Tuesday. The bombing took place at around 12:39 pm, according to Pakistan’s interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

According to reports, the suicide bomber had attempted to enter the courthouse building situated in the G-11 area. He had remained at the site for about 10 to 11 minutes before setting off the explosion, planning to enter the building. However, after failing to enter, he went near a police vehicle, which arrived outside the courthouse and detonated the explosives.

Sources said that the severed 'head' of the suspected suicide bomber was found at the site. They also said that the Fitna al-Khawarij, an Afghan Taliban proxy terrorist group also called the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), was involved. Islamabad has long accused Kabul of harbouring terrorist groups that target the country.

One of the witnesses, Malik, who spoke to AFP, said, “It was complete chaos, lawyers and people were running inside the complex. I saw two dead bodies lying on the gate, and several cars were on fire.”

Mohsin Naqvi said that the country would take swift action if another country was involved. "There are many messages in this attack. If someone from another country is involved, it will not be forgiven," he said.

The minister also assured that an investigation is underway. “I assure you we will identify him in the next few hours,” he said. “We are investigating this incident from different angles. It is not just another bombing. It happened right in Islamabad,”  he added.

Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari expressed his condolences on X. The post said "President Asif Ali Zardari strongly condemned the suicide blast near the Islamabad District Judicial Complex, expressed deep condolences with the bereaved families, prayed for the early recovery of the injured, and paid tribute to law enforcement agencies."

Security and surveillance have been tightened in the area.

The attack came a day after a military institute, Wana Cadet College in South Waziristan, was attacked by terrorists. The incident left three people dead.
