The return of a third season of HBO's "The Last Of Us" was expected considering how Season 2 ended. We now have the official casting news. The show, created by Craig Mazin, an adaptation of the celebrated video game of the same name, has added Patrick Wilson ("The Conjuring" films, "Fargo" Season 2) and Jason Ritter ("Matlock", "Gravity Falls")

Those who had followed the last two seasons anticipated a perspective shift in Season 3 of "The Last Of Us", and the new casting choices are supposedly in line with what to expect in the story going forward. According to Deadline, Kaitlyn Dever's character Abby will be the primary focus, since the new chapter will follow her deeply personal and emotional connection with Patrick Wilson's character, while Ritter plays WLF soldier Hanley.

Craig Mazin ("Chernobyl") will take over showrunning duties after co-creator and showrunner Neil Druckmann left the show last year.

The returning cast members include Ariela Barer, Tati Gabrielle, and Spencer Lord — as Mel, Nora and Owen, respectively. Also joining the cast is Clea DuVall as a serpahite, aside from Jorge Lendeborg Jr. as Manny. The role was recast after Danny Ramirez dropped out of the show.

The third season could also be the final season.

The original seasons' cast was headlined by Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, Gabriel Luna, Isabela Merced, and Young Mazino, among others.
