In a bid to strengthen the US manufacturing, President Donald Trump announced a broad package of new tariffs on Wednesday. In addition to the reciprocal tariffs, Trump said that he would impose a 10 per cent universal tariff on all imported foreign goods.
The 10 per cent universal tariff will come into effect on April 5, while the reciprocal tariffs will begin on April 9.
Trump had said that he was acting to bring in hundreds of billions in new revenue to the US government and restore fairness to global trade.
Experts opine that Trump's sweeping new tariffs would increase the risk of inflation and trade wars.
