A Nicaragua-bound plane carrying over 300 Indians has been grounded in France, reportedly, over suspected "human trafficking".

The aircraft was grounded during a technical stopover at small Vatry airport in Marne department on Thursday after an "anonymous tip-off", Paris prosecutors office told AFP. Reportedly, the aircraft carried 303 Indian passengers. The Airbus A340 was flying from the United Arab Emirates to the Nicaraguan capital, Managua.

The flight was carried out by a Romanian charter company and had departed from Dubai.

According to local officials, an investigation has been launched into the conditions and purpose of the trip.

A statement by the Marne prefect's office said that the passengers were allowed to remain in the aircraft at first, but later the airport's arrival lounge was transformed into a waiting area with beds.

According to reports, some of the passengers were believed to be "illegal migrants".
