A video of a Khalistan flag raised at the Indian consulate in Brisbane, Australia is doing rounds on social media. The video has been in circulation for over a day. The video urges foreign ministers who are due to visit Delhi for the G20 summit to visit 'Widow Colony', where women who were raped by Hindu supremacists in the aftermath of Indira Gandhi’s assassination in November 1984 live.
Indian officials have been accusing pro-Khalistan Sikhs of vandalising Hindu temples in Australia and Canada. However, there has been no proof of the same. Both in Australia and Canada, however, there have been instances of Hindu extremists being caught red-handed vandalising the banners of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and Khalistan Referendum.
Videos circulating on social media claim, “successive Indian regimes of BJP and Congress have massacred the religious minorities in India with complete impunity. While Congress committed Genocide of Sikhs in November 1984, BJP’s hands are soaked with the blood of Muslims from 1992 Babri Masjid to 2002 Gujrat pogroms in which PM Modi’s direct and active involvement is substantiated in recent BBC documentary”. The Khalistan Referendum is being viewed as a peaceful freedom of expression by western countries like Australia and Canada.
