The UK is set to get a new Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party soon. So far, it looks like former foreign minister Liz Truss is in the lead. Truss has promised to tackle rising energy bills and increase energy supplies. Truss makes the promise at the time the country is at the cusp of a recession, inflation and industrial unrest.

As Britain grapples with high living costs, Truss has also promised that she will take "decisive action to ensure families and businesses can get through this winter and the next". "If elected, I plan within the first week of my new administration to set out our immediate action on energy bills and energy supply," she told the Sunday Telegraph.

Truss also said that she would appoint a Council of Economic Advisers to get "the best ideas" for the economy. When elected, the new PM, will also have to tackle an increasing number of strikes, long waiting lists in the public health service, and a court ruling next month on Scotland's bid for independence, Reuters reported.

Truss has also said that she would not introduce any new taxes adding that she would "reform the government funding" for childcare. Truss, in August, had promised to further UK-India relations if made prime minister. She said, “I want to get this trade deal done, preferably by Diwali, but definitely by the end of the year, and I want to make sure that the trade deal is as deep as possible covering everything from life sciences to technology to agriculture.”
