Author Khaled Hosseini's daughter Haris came out as a transgender to the world yesterday. The author took to Instagram and Twitter to share the news.
“I’ve never been prouder of her. She has taught our family so much about bravery and truth. I know this process was painful for her. She is sober to the cruelty trans people are subjected to. But she is strong and undaunted,” he wrote on Twitter. “I love my daughter. She is beautiful, wise, brilliant. I will be by her side every step of the way. Our family stands behind her,” he added.
Hosseini further wrote, “I am delighted to now have not one but two beautiful daughters.” The writer shares another daughter Farah with his wife Roya Hosseini.
“Most of all, I am inspired by Haris’ fearlessness, her courage to share with the world her true self. She has taught me and our family so much about bravery, about truth. About what it means to live authentically,” Hosseini wrote on Instagram.
Hosseini's followers on Twitter applauded him for supporting his daughter.
“I'm delighted she has a supportive father and family who will enable her to overcome any hurdles and succeed in life. Thank you for your support; you are her world, and that's what matters,” wrote a user. “Love to you and your daughter,” wrote another one. “As much as I love your books, THIS is the most beautiful thing you’ve written,” another user wrote.
