Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan would be arrested once his protective bail expires, a senior minister said on Sunday. The Peshawar High Court (PHC) had on June 2 granted three-week transit bail to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman ahead of his party's second long march to Islamabad.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Twitter that Imran Khan has been named in over two dozens cases including rioting, sedition, chaos and armed attacks at the federation.

“How can one, who instigates people and has complete disregard of moral and democratic values, terming his opponents traitors, become the head of political party in a democratic society?” he asked.

Meanwhile, Pakistan security agencies have been put on high alert in Islamabad after rumours of a plot being hatched to assassinate Imran Khan. Section 144 has been imposed in the city and all gatherings have been banned.

The Islamabad Police said on Saturday night that it will provide complete security to the PTI chairman, but added that a “reciprocal cooperation” is expected from his security teams as well.

"In view of the expected arrival of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan in Bani Gala, which is a residential area located in Islamabad, security in the area has been increased and a high alert has been sounded. However, until now Islamabad Police has not received any confirmed news of return from Imran Khan's team," Islamabad Police tweeted.

Police said the Security Division has deployed dedicated security in Bani Gala. “Section 144 is imposed in Islamabad and any congregation is not allowed as per orders of District Magistrate," it said.

Fawad Chaudhry, a senior PTI leader, had said that Imran Khan would come to Islamabad on Sunday. Chaudhry had in April said that the security agencies had reported a “plot” to assassinate Imran Khan.

Another party leader Faisal Vawda also raised similar claims and said Imran Khan has been advised to use bulletproof glasses during his rally at Islamabad's Parade ground, reported the Dawn.

Hassaan Niazi, nephew of Imran Khan, said if anything happens to the PTI chief, it will be treated as an attack on Pakistan.

“Anything happens to our leader Imran Khan, will be treated as attack on Pakistan. Response will aggressive - the Handlers will also regret," Niazi said.
