Canadian doctors protest pay hike, say they get paid well already

Canada doctors The doctors want the money to be redistributed to those who really need it

Doctors of Quebec are a truly inspiring lot. More than 750 physicians, residents and medical students from the Canadian province are protesting a recent hike in their pay. Their reason for protest— they already earn more than enough. Instead, they prefer that the money be used to alleviate conditions for patients and overworked nurses.

The protesting doctors have signed an online petition requesting that their raises be cancelled. They have observed that drastic cuts by the government has left some citizens without access to necessary medical services.

This beautiful gesture was the result of a recent petition from the nurses union in the province. The nurses union requested that the government improve the working conditions of nurses and to address the shortage in their profession. The problem of shortage of nurses was highlighted by a Facebook post by a Quebec nurse last month.

Emilie Ricard, a nurse in Quebec had posted on Facebook about her experience on a shift where she was the only nurse available for 70 patients. “I am broken by my profession, I am ashamed of the poverty of the care that I provide,” she had said.
