Asian Games 2026: India creates history as women’s 4x400m relay team wins gold

Showcasing a stellar performance at the ongoing Asian Games 2026 in Japan's Nagoya, India has added another gold to its medal tally.

The Indian women's 4x400m relay quartet of Kiran, Poovamma, Prachi and Vithya delivered a stunning performance to finish first in the final and secure gold for the country. With this, the medal tally has crossed 50. This is also the first athletics gold medal for India at the Asian Games 2026, with an impressive time of 3:29.69. Bahrain and China finished second and third, respectively.

In another category, Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Sneha Sathyanarayana and Harita Bhadra won the bronze medal in the 4x100m mixed relay final after clocking a season-best time of 41.06 seconds.

Meanwhile, India's Pooja Singh showcased her best with a leap of 1.84 metres to clinch a bronze medal in women's high jump. This was after India's Gulveer Singh continued his spectacular run of form at the ongoing games by winning a bronze medal in the men's 5000m with a time of 13:32.75, completing a hat-trick of podium finishes in the Japanese city. With this feat, Gulveer became the second Indian man to win three medals in track and field events in a single edition of the continental games.

Apart from Gulveer, Vithya Ramaraj also completed a hat-trick of medals at the Asian Games 2026. Earlier, she was also part of the 4x400m mixed relay team that won silver, as well as the 400m hurdles, where she secured bronze.

Creating a national record in the men's pole vault, India's Dev Kumar Meena stood at an overall seventh position with an effort of 5.50m. In the women's hammer throw, Tanya Chaudhary finished fourth with a 65.35m throw, while compatriot Anushka Yadav finished fifth with 64.56.
