Following Brendon McCullum's dismissal as England's Test Coach due to consistent poor results, Rahul Dravid has emerged as a leading contender, reportedly competing with Andy Flower and Richard Dawson, with Dravid's meticulous approach and past successes, including leading India to the 2023 World Test Championship and 2024 T20 World Cup victories, making him an attractive prospect despite his reported lack of desire for a full-time coaching role. The article also mentions other potential candidates such as Andrew Flintoff, Mike Hesson, Justin Langer, and Kumar Sangakkara, and notes that McCullum's tenure, which began in 2022 and included 27 wins out of 49 Test matches, ended with an announcement from the England and Wales Cricket Board citing the need for change ahead of next year's Ashes, with McCullum acknowledging the decision and accepting responsibility for failures while continuing to coach the ODI and T20I sides.

Following the removal of Brendon McCullum, England’s Test Coach, renowned former Indian cricketer, Rahul Dravid, has emerged as one of the top contenders for the position. The New Zealand cricketer was dismissed after the team's repeated poor performance in the long run.

According to a Daily Telegraph report, Dravid is to compete with other contestants, including England coach Andy Flower and former England spinner Richard Dawson. The 53-year-old Dravid is an attractive choice because of his meticulous approach and deep understanding of the game. He led India’s victory in the 2023 World Test Championship final and the 2024 T20 World Cup.

However, the report adds that Dravid has no intention of pursuing a full-time coaching career.

"Dravid has no desire to coach full-time, but the England Test job would allow him extended periods at home and the chance to help keep alive his favourite format of the game. England, at the very least, should gauge his interest," the report said.

Flower is an equally competitive contestant, having coached England prior to this and leading the team to victory in three Ashes series victories. The England team was also ranked first in the ICC Test ranking under his coaching. He also recently guided the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to win back-to-back IPL titles.

The report also adds that several other names are under consideration, including England Lions coach Andrew Flintoff, Pakistan coach Mike Hesson, former Australian coach Justin Langer and Kumar Sangakkara from Sri Lanka.

Brendon Barrie McCullum had been coaching the England team since 2022. During his 4-year tenure, he oversaw 49 test matches, of which 27 were won, 2 ended in draws and 20 were lost. The England and Wales Cricket Board on Sunday announced that the cricketer would no longer coach the team, saying “the time is right to make a change", ahead of the Ashes next year.

McCullum accepted the decision and even apologised to England fans, taking responsibility for the England’s failures in the major series. However, he will still be coaching for the ODI and T20I sides.
