A popular football outlet claimed that the rumours doing the rounds regarding Manchester United being willing to sell their in-form goalkeeper, Senne Lammens, are baseless. The Belgian shot-stopper, who could well become Thibaut Courtois's successor in the national team setup, is an untouchable at Old Trafford who will be part of the core group for many campaigns to come.
It is no secret that the club are looking to make multiple signings in the midfield and wing-back roles and are ready to make several sales to raise funds.
It was the popular outlet TEAMtalk that came out with a report citing their inside sources after a less speculative Spanish outlet included Lammens among the players that Manchester United were willing to let go as part of their ongoing rebuild.
According to the reports, Manchester United are open to selling half the squad, including all three goalkeepers—Lammens, Altay Bayindir, and André Onana. The club wanted multiple signings, and offloading as many players as possible was a priority given the progress they have made under Michael Carrick.
However, TEAMtalk confirmed that Manchester United are more than happy with the tall Belgian. Goalkeeping errors were one major area of concern that cost United games, with both Bayindir and Onana failing. Despite his young age, the 23-year-old has earned his starting position in the team with a string of consistent performances. Thus, the speculation about his future raised eyebrows among Red Devils across the globe.
Manchester United's higher-ups now see their goalkeeping woes resolved since Lammens took over and settled down. Signing him from Royal Antwerp for £18.1 million is seen by them as one of the perfect scouting and signing assignments that they got right in recent years, TEAMtalk confirmed.
“But I can confirm that the club are delighted with Senne Lammens and that signing. Let’s not forget the goalkeeping department was a huge worry, but he has come in and settled brilliantly; they love him. Both Onana and Bayindir will leave this summer and Lammens will further strengthen his position as the club's first-choice goalkeeper."
Manchester United are set to return to the UEFA Champions League next season as they are clear favourites to finish third in the Premier League.
