Dewald Brevis produced a rollicking hundred in the ongoing SA20 final between Pretoria Capitals and Sunrisers Eastern Cape in Cape Town on Sunday (January 25). On a surface where no other batter got going, Brevis belted a 56-ball 101, his third century in T20s, to ensure that the Capitals didn't end with an embarrassing total in the summit clash.
The century was a fitting end to the campaign for Brevis who finishes as the tournament's second highest run scorer this season, only two runs behind Quinton de Kock who does have an innings left to bat later on. Brevis produced two fifties this season apart from the hundred in the summit clash.
One of those fifties became against Joburg Super Kings when the Capitals were struggling at 7-5, staring at an potentially shameful defeat. Brevis steadied the ship with Sherfane Rutherford to take Capitals to a competitive total, one that they could defend comfortably later on in the match.
That innings shows Brevis' increasing maturity which along with unreal potential promises greater things in the coming years. In terms of immediate future, Brevis will be a key member for South Africa and Chennai Super Kings in T20 World Cup 2026 and IPL 2026 respectively. If the SA20 season was an indication, Brevis could elevate his game and fame to the next level if he can nail these two big campaigns.
The 22-year-old ends the SA20 season with a superb strike rate of 156.22 and his overall strike rate in T20s is a shade of 153 currently, almost similar to his IPL strike rate. However, it is for South Africa that Brevis has proved to be the most dangerous, striking at a phenomenal 173 in international cricket.
