T20 cricket keeps reinventing the game, almost on a daily basis. Strokes, techniques and tactics that were unimaginable a decade ago are now not a surprise anymore. Even then, what Glenn Phillips did in the Super Smash game between Otago and Central Districts on Tuesday (December 30) was truly incredible.

The dynamic batter, top-scored with a 48-ball 90* studded with seven boundaries and four maximums, produced a moment of absolute madness during his brilliant innings. The right-hander by design, Phillips decided to bat as a left-hander for one ball and guess what? He hit that ball for a six in the weirdest way possible.

Central Districts captain Jayden Lennox responded by bowling this very wide outside off, expecting Phillips to struggle as he isn't a usual left-hander. However, Phillips still managed to use his reach and sliced it over sweeper cover for a six. His decision to bat as a left-hander was possibly to target the short leg-side boundary for a six, and he got the result, although in a different manner.

Riding on Phillips' masterclass, Otago posted a strong total of 193-7 in their 20 overs. The next best score for Otago in that innings Jamal Todd's 16-ball 32. In reply, Central Districts had a decent start but losing frequent wickets hurt their cause. Eventually, Otago emerged victorious by a comfortable 41-run margin.
