Alexander Isak injury means Manchester United's Antoine Semenyo transfer dream over: Report

Antoine Semenyo always wanted Liverpool over Manchester City and United and the injury blows to Gapko and Isak means Arne Slot's team may seriously consider getting the Bournemouth attacker in January

Liverpool FC will conduct further tests once Alexander Isak's MRI scan results are out to understand the exact extent of the striker's injury. If the Swede's leg is broken, as feared, it will have serious implications for the January transfer market, as the Reds will pursue a forward currently being targeted by Manchester United.

Ghana international Antoine Semenyo is wanted by Ruben Amorim's team, but if Liverpool comes knocking, he will happily leave for Anfield instead, reports from England claimed. Semenyo rates Liverpool over Manchester United, and Isak's unavailability could be the bridge connecting the player and the club.

Mohamed Salah is unavailable for the Reds as he is on AFCON duty with Egypt, while Cody Gakpo is sidelined with a muscle injury, further depleting Arne Slot's attacking options. Federico Chiesa and Rio Ngumoha are available to support Hugo Ekitiké, but the Liverpool management is likely to spend to provide the gaffer with a new striker in January, reports said. AFC Bournemouth’s Semenyo is likely to be available for £65 million—a sum that the defending English champions find reasonable, TEAMtalk said in a report.

Although a winger, Semenyo has been among the most effective goalscorers of the season in England. Liverpool may decide to counter their injury concerns by recalling Semenyo or combining him with Harvey Elliott, who is away on a loan spell at Villa Park, the TEAMtalk report said.

It was earlier reported that Bournemouth have already been contacted by United enquiring about their 25-year-old forward, which underlined the fact that there were no clear favourites in the transfer race; Liverpool entering the fray could change that altogether. He has eight goals and three assists to his credit this season, and Ghana’s failure to qualify for AFCON means he will be available throughout the campaign.

What happened to Alexander Isak?

Isak was helped off the field with an apparent left ankle injury sustained in the act of scoring for Liverpool, just 11 minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute in the 2-1 victory at Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday. As British football's record signing swept in a left-foot finish to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute, Micky van de Ven slid in with a challenge that connected with the Sweden striker's ankle.

Isak did not even celebrate the goal and, after receiving treatment, was carried off the field with the help of Liverpool's medical staff.
