In a shocking development, the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) has suspended four of its cricketers with immediate effect on the grounds of match fixing and other corrupt practices. On Friday (December 12), an FIR has been filed at the Crime Branch in Guwahati. Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri are the suspended cricketers.
While match-fixing allegations are being speculated as the major offence, reports also state that the four players have also been accused of being involved in other corrupt activities related to the game. Not only have they been involved themselves but have also allegedly tried to manipulate their teammates into committing the same crimes.
"The Assam Cricket Association has suspended four players — Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi and Abhishek Thakuri — with immediate effect after allegations emerged that they were involved in corrupt practices relating to the game of cricket," said the official statement from the ACA.
"The above four players, who have represented Assam at various stages, are accused of influencing and attempting to instigate some of the current Assam team players, who took part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 held in Lucknow from November 26 to December 8."
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also been in close contact with the ACA regarding this incident. The Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) of the BCCI also conducted their independent investigations and ACA have escalated criminal proceedings against the four cricketers for bringing the game into disrepute.
The cricketers have been suspended from all forms of the game in professional cricket, pending the results of the ongoing investigations. The BCCI along with ACA have taken a strong stand in this regard and have also urged other state associations to be on guard against any potential disasters.
