Wolverhampton's struggles have left Manchester United with an opportunity to get their long-time target João Gomes, a report said. If the Brazilian's will to move to Old Trafford in January materialises, the contract extension offer before Casemiro will be shut, the report added.
Casemiro's countryman João Gomes is rated as a cheaper alternative to Brighton's Carlos Baleba and Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson by United. He has been under the club's radar since 2024 as the direct successor of Casemiro. According to the latest report, the midfielder can be acquired for a sum around £40 million, Spanish portal Record claimed.
Five-time Champions League winner from Real Madrid arrived at Old Trafford for around £70 million in 2022. 33-year-old Casemiro’s contract runs out at the end of the current season, but United possess an option to extend it for a further year. But if the 24-year-old Gomes agrees to come in January, United will be able to offload another high-salaried veteran at the end of the campaign.
