Ibrahima Konate is the first name on Real Madrid's transfer target list, followed by two other elite Premier League defenders, a latest report indicates. While Konate is almost certain to become a Los Blancos player in the upcoming season, Xabi Alonso's team has reignited its interest in two other defenders who were tracked during Carlo Ancelotti's tenure as well. Tottenham's Micky van de Ven and Arsenal's William Saliba are the other frontunnerss who are being closely monitored by the La Liga side, according to the report.
Real Madrid are showing a particular interest in the big, stout Micky van de Ven after they decided not to offer fresh contracts to David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger. Micky is dominant in the air, is fast, and is known for winning duels. The muscular defender, who joined the Premier League side from Wolfsburg in 2023, can operate as a left-back when asked and can defend in the open field as well.
Real were earlier linked to the Dutch centre-back in late December 2024 when they were battling multiple injury woes. He was considered the ideal replacement for injured Éder Militao, who had suffered an ACL setback.
According to popular football portals, the Spurs talent's market value is said to be around €50 million which makes him one of the most affordable options in the age bracket with a world-class physical and fast defending style. While his current deal runs until June 30, 2029, reports had earlier claimed that Spurs may offer him a new contract that would more than double his current wages to over £100,000 per week. The intention is to ensure the workhorse remains in London for a longer period of time
While Real have not initiated any sort of official communications with Spurs for the 24-year-old, they are willing to offer him a chance provided the centre-back wants to elevate himself to the next level, TeamTalk said in a report. Players like Van de Ven, who continue to impress Real for many years, are unlikely to fade away before reaching full potential. If they start to attract more suitors, Madrid may fast-track the process and may offer a quick deal, the report added.
Eder Militao's constant injury concerns are also a problem for Real Madrid, who will look to further strengthen their backline despite the presence of Dean Huijsen and Raúl Asencio among others. Fast defenders who can press and create constant trouble in the air fit well with Xabi Alonso's brand of football.
