Romario Shepherd smashed his maiden IPL fifty to provide Royal Challengers Bengaluru with a late flourish as they scored 213/5 against Chennai Super Kings on Saturday. The bowling all-rounder from Guyana remained unbeaten on 53 from 14 balls as he punished Khaleel Ahmed and Matheesha Pathirana for four fours six sixes.
Shepherd entered the IPL record books as his knock at the Chinnaswamy was the joint second-fastest fifty in the IPL. Yashasvi Jaiswal's fifty from 13 ball is the only one ahead of the tall right-hander's incredible knock in the all-time charts. KL Rahul (2018) and Pat Cummins (2022) are the other batters to have struck IPL half-centuries in fourteen balls.

Khaleel Ahmed, who holds the distinct record of bowling the most dot balls in IPL 2025, went for 65 runs in 3 overs as Shepherd managed 33 runs in the penultimate over of the innings. The left-hand seamer was slammed for four sixes and two boundaries by the former Mumbai Indians player. Had Khaleel not managed a dot ball (which was a fee hit!), there was a fair chance of him breaking the unwanted record of the most expensive over in IPL (37 runs).
Pathirana was then punished for 21 runs in the last over of the RCB innings as Shepherd found two boundaries and sixes. Needing three runs of the last ball ahead of the break to reach his half century, the Caribbean all-rounder launched the ball over long off to find a huge six to the excitement of the RCB crowd. Shepherd and Tim David raised their fifty stand for the sixth wicket in just 14 balls and the latter contributed a princely two runs in that alliance.

Sunil Narine and Nicholas Pooran had both scored fifties against RCB in just 15 balls each. While KKR's Narine did it in 2017, Pooran's remarkable innings came in 2023 for LSG.
