After it was confirmed that Ruben Amorim's Manchester United would not offer a new contract to their senior midfielder Christian Eriksen ahead of summer, fresh reports claim that the former Premier League champions have already identified the Danish international's replacement.
32-year-old Christian Eriksen's current contract at Old Trafford will run out in the summer and the former Inter Milan star was likely to start considering options before him soon, noted journalist Fabrizio Romano and others had reported last week. The club had already considered the option of selling Eriksen in January, but he ended up remaining with the squad.

Eriksen had good stints with Ajax and Tottenham Hotspur before making a move to Italy to join Inter Milan. The Denmark international became Manchester United's number 14 after making a move from Premier League rivals Brentford in 2022. Eriksen has made 93 appearances for Manchester United across all competitions, scoring 7 times. An Erik Ten Hag recruit, he made 44 appearances across all competitions in his first season as a Red, scoring twice and registering 10 assists.

Meanwhile, under Amorim, Manchester United are likely to go for a midfield revamp once Eriksen and Brazilian Casemiro exit in the summer. The priority is to sign Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, Fichajes claimed in a report. United believe that Wharton appears to be the ideal player to be the Dane's successor in the middle of the park.

The 2004-born Englishman, who joined Crystal Palace in 2024 on a five-and-a-half-year deal, has attracted interest from many teams and Tottenham are closely monitoring his progress, Fichajes added. What makes the 21-year-old versatile is the ability to operate as a CM and CDM with great agility and composure.

However, Wharton demonstrated his ability and potential during a breakout season-and-a-half in the Championship with Blackburn Rovers before his arrival at the South London club. He donned the Palace colours a total of 30 times so far and is yet to score his first Premier League goal after 11 outings.
