Bayern's Mathys Tel rejects Tottenham in hope of Arsenal, Aston Villa bids: Report

Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham was ready to offer Bayern Munich €60 million for Mathys Tel but it is safe to believe that Aston Villa's hunt for Jhon Duran replacement have influenced the French striker's decision

Mathys Tel has decided against joining Tottenham Hotspur and will wait for other clubs to approach, a report said. The Bayern Munich attacker, who was promised a starting position by Ange Postecoglou's Tottenham, decided not to travel to London on Thursday after Bayern had accepted a €60 million ($62.5m) offer for him.

19-year-old Frenchman Tel was forced to look for opportunities beyond Munich due to a lack of game time in the star-studded squad. Mathys Tel was closely monitored by multiple Premier League sides although injury-ravaged Spurs decided to make the first move. With the likes of Timo Werner, Dominic Solanke and James Maddison unavailable for selection, Tottenham decided to rope in Tel from Germany. They wanted to lure Tel with an attractive paycheck and guaranteed time on the pitch. However, he decided to reject the Son-Heung Min-led side at the last minute, ESPN said in a report quoting sources at the German capital.

Premier League's Aston Villa, who lost Jhon Duran to Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr FC, are interested in signing Tel as the Colombian's replacement. As things stand, it is safe to believe that Tel considers Villa Park a better destination than Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Also interested in Tel's signature are Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea, the ESPN report said. All these clubs are better positioned in the title race than Spurs, whose home defeat to Leicester City on Sunday came as a further shock for the fans. Spurs have won once in their last 11 matches and are languishing in 15th place in the Premier League with 24 points.

Meanwhile, Radu Dragusin became the latest addition to Tottenham Hotspur's already lengthy injury list after manager Ange Postecoglou said on Friday the defender would miss Sunday's Premier League game at Brentford due to a knee problem. Guglielmo Vicario, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Wilson Odobert and Brennan Johnson, are all sidelined with injuries for the club.
