BCCI announced Rohit Sharma-led Indian cricket team for the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup on Tuesday. Good form in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League helped some of the stars to seal their spot in the squad. This was particularly true for wicketkeeper batters Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant as the slots were closely contested. CSK "pinch-hitter" Shivam Dube was another player who made most IPL 2024 to grab the attention of the selectors.
However, many of the 15-strong Indian squad and the four-member reserves flopped in their respective fixtures immediately following the squad announcement. Internet trolls had a field day as among the players who failed included captain Rohit Sharma and vice-captain Hardik Pandya. While Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube failed to score, seamer Arshdeep Singh and spinner Yuzvendra Chahal delivered ridiculously expensive spells!
However, ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal gave some relief to the Indian fans with their top-notch performances.
