The Euro 2020 clash between Denmark and Finland restarted post a brief suspension, after Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed on the field during the match.

Just before halftime in their Group B clash against Finland, Eriksen collapsed suddenly while running near the left touchline. He was given treatment for about 10 minutes on the field before being carried off on a stretcher, with officials holding up sheets to hide him from view.

“Following the request made by players of both teams, UEFA has agreed to restart the match between Denmark and Finland tonight at 20:30 CET,” UEFA tweeted. “The last four minutes of the first half will be played, there will then be a 5-minute half-time break followed by the second half.”

Soon after Eriksen collapsed, teammates immediately gestured for help and medics rushed on to the field. Eriksen was given chest compressions as his teammates stood around him in a shielding wall for privacy.

The Finland players huddled by their bench and eventually walked off the field while Eriksen was still getting treatment, as did the referees.

Pictures emerged on social media showing Eriksen awake and conscious while being stretchered off. UEFA, too, confirmed that Eriksen has been hospitalised and is stable.

"The UEFA EURO 2020 match in Copenhagen has been suspended due to a medical emergency," UEFA said in a tweet. “Following the medical emergency involving Denmark’s player Christian Eriksen, a crisis meeting has taken place with both teams and match officials and further information will be communicated at 19:45 CET. The player has been transferred to the hospital and has been stabilised,” the football body said in another tweet.
