After Joe Root hit a swashbuckling double century on Saturday, former England cricketer Andrew Flintoff dug up an old tweet from 2016 in which Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan had written off the England Test captain when Virat Kohli was compared to him.

Root’s brilliant 218 off 377 balls put England in command in the first Test against India in Chennai. He is the only batsman to score a double ton on his 100th Test match.

In 2016, Flintoff had lauded Kohli’s match-winning knock from a World T20 match, tweeting that the Indian skipper could be as good as Root. Senior Bachchan, who is an avid cricket follower and quite active on Twitter, replied to his tweet that the England Test captain would be “rooted out”.

“Root who ? जड़ से उखाड़ देंगे Root ko ..!!!” Bachchan had tweeted.

However, after Root’s incredible double century at Chepauk on day 2 of the ongoing Test match, Flintoff responded to the tweet, as it did the rounds on Twitter.

“With the greatest respect, this aged well,” he tweeted with a laughing emoji.

When a Twitter user appreciated him for digging up the tweet all the way from 2016, the former all-rounder admitted that it was “doing the rounds again” and he found it amusing.

“Not really , it’s been doing the rounds again and I found it amusing . Hoping  @SrBachchan does too,” Flintoff tweeted.

On Saturday, England piled on the runs and ended day 2 at 555/8 as Indian bowlers struggled. Root hit 19 boundaries and a couple of sixes. Apart from the skipper, Dominic Sibley and Ben Stokes made significant contributions with the bat, scoring 87 and 82 respectively.
