Indian Super League team NorthEast United FC have halted their training in preparation for the upcoming season beginning November 20 after two players tested positive for COVID-19.

All players and staff members have been in the bio-bubble since last week after undergoing tests. However, this has gone in vain after the positive results of the players, and the entire squad is now under quarantine in the team hotel.

The team has been training at the Panchayat ground in Goa’s Candolim town, close to their hotel. Members of the side who have contracted the coronavirus need two negative tests before they can return to training and join the rest of the team in the bubble.

Times of India reported that head coach Gerard Nus gave the squad a day off from training on Monday and the team was asked to spend Tuesday inside their respective hotel rooms.

NEUFC are fresh off a 2-1 win against Hyderabad FC and a draw against Jamshedpur FC in pre-season friendlies.

NorthEast United FC will play their ISL season opener against Mumbai City FC on Saturday at the Tilak Maidan.
