Ending months of speculation, Australian star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell finally took to social media on Wednesday to announce his engagement with Indian-origin long-time girlfriend, Vini Raman.

Maxwell shared the photo of himself with Vini Raman, a pharmacist based in Melbourne, on Instagram where she is seen flaunting the engagement ring. She, too, shared the same picture on her Instagram account and captioned it thus: “Last week my favourite person asked me to marry him #YES.”

The two have, reportedly, met at a Melbourne Stars event and have been dating for the past two years, and have been posting pictures with each other on Instagram for quite some time now.

Vini Raman, though of south-Indian origin, was born and brought up in Melbourne. Interestingly, during a Q&A session with her followers on Instagram in February last year, one person asked her which was her favourite Tamil film. “Padayappa”, she admitted, and also added that as soon as she gets a “good quality DVD with English subtitles” of the blockbuster Rajinkanth-starrer, she will make Maxwell watch it.

The Aussie all-rounder is currently out of the team because of an elbow injury. He had taken a mental health break in October last year. Maxwell had opted out of Australia's T20I series against Sri Lanka after playing the first two matches to address his mental health. In fact, he had said that Vini Raman was the first one to notice the change in his behaviour and advise him to seek professional help.

Maxwell returned to competitive cricket in December last year and helped Melbourne Stars reach the Big Bash League 2019-20 final.

He will play for Kings XI Punjab in IPL this year, after the club bought him for a whopping Rs 10.75 crore in the auction.

Interestingly, Maxwell is not the first Australian cricketer to marry an Indian woman. Former Australian bowler Shaun Tait married model Mashoom Singha in 2014 after meeting her at an IPL party and dating for a year.
