Seema Punia and Navjeet Dhillon clinched the silver and bronze medal respectively in the women's discus throw at the Commonwealth Games to take India's medal tally to 31.
Punia's best throw came at 60.41m, which she achieved in her first attempt to win her fourth successive Commonwealth Games medal, while Dhillon grabbed the bronze with her final throw of 57.43m.
Thirty-four-year-old Punia had 59.57m in her second throw, but fouled her third and fifth attempts while coming up with a 58.54m in between. She had a final throw of 58.90m.
Former world champion Australian Dani Stevens won the gold with a Commonwealth Games record best throw of 68.26m in her fourth attempt.
Punia, who was competing in her final Commonwealth Games, was well below her best though. She has a season's best of 61.05m for which she won the gold in the Federation Cup National Championships last month. Her personal best throw is 64.84m which she achieved in 2004.
Punia has been the most decorated Indian track and field athlete in the Commonwealth Games history, delivering a medal each time she has represented the country in the Games.
Starting from the 2006 edition in Melbourne, where she won a silver, Punia has been on the podium in the 2010 (silver) and 2014 (bronze) Commonwealth Games.
