Gamers in India woke up to major news! We now have a new God of War game, as well as a formal announcement of the remake of some of the greatest titles in the series. PlayStation dropped a surprise on us all when they announced, shortly after 4 am in India, the release of a brand new 2D action platformer, God of War: Sons of Sparta.
And the best part, the original voice of the God of War games, jazz musician TC Carson, returns as the seasoned Kratos, who also becomes your narrator in GoW Sons of Sparta.
Now, the new 2D game is set in Kratos’ youth, but it carries the classic God of War kinetic combat. And oh, the whole thing is canon, with the same writers as that of the 2018 blockbuster God of War and the follow-up hit God of War: Ragnarok.
Pittsburgh-based Mega Cat Studios led the development of this 2D platformer, with Santa Monica Studios firmly behind them.
"Experience an untold chapter in Kratos’ journey set during the harsh years of Spartan training alongside his brother Deimos. Through endless trials, their minds, bodies, and hearts have been moulded to become Spartan soldiers for whom duty and honour mean everything." That's the tagline Mega Cat Studios chose when they unveiled the game in the early hours of Friday.
Antony Del Rio reprises his role as young Kratos in GoW Sons of Sparta. He is joined by Scott Menville as young Deimos.
God of War original trilogy remakes announced
But for God of War fans, that is not all. This time’s State of Play had one more suprise!
In a rather cryptic tweet, Santa Monica Studios more or less confirmed that they were giving us proper remakes of the 2005 PlayStation 2 hit God of War (GoW 1), its hall-of-fame 2007 sequels God of War II (GoW 2). And yes, the PS3 giant, God of War III (GoW 3).
And then, PlayStation went ahead and dropped an announcement trailer.
Yes, we are getting official remakes of the original trilogy. That took us, millennial gamers, back to 'em good ol' days of classic PlayStation!
