The latest to join the line of smartphone heavyweights will be LG’s new G7 ThinQ. The long-awaited flagship model will accompany Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and Apple’s iPhone X in the Rs 60,000 range. It won't be surprising then, that the G7 ThinQ will boast not only state-of-the-art specs, but a host of unique features as well. Speculations are rife.
The G7 ThinQ will be unveiled in New York today, and in Seoul tomorrow. LG usually tends to delay the market release, but that may not be the case this time, as its competitors were early to the game. There is no talk about an Indian release yet, but seeing as Samsung and Apple have both launched their flagships here, there is little doubt that the G7 will compete in the Indian market as well.
So why should we be excited about this release? For one, the G7 ThinQ promises to be an interesting piece of hardware featuring a 6.1 inch QHD display with higher brightness and a metal and glass casing with a waterproof coating. Photographs suggest that the fingerprint sensor will be on the rear which means that the G7 ThinQ will probably have an iris scanner in the front.
The phone will run Android 8.0 (Oreo) and is likely to have a 3,000 mAh battery and wireless charging. The G7 is rumoured to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and 6 GB RAM as well. Anything less could place it beneath its very capable competition.
The smartphone is likely to make its mark in the sound department. LG has confirmed that the G7 ThinQ will feature a “BoomBox” speaker, capable of producing considerably higher volumes and boosted bass, along with DTS:X 3D surround sound which can channel 7.1 audio through even standard headphones. The G7 ThinQ will also be fitted with a sonically adept “HiFi Quad DAC” microchip.
The camera, however, seems to be nothing special. Reports suggest that the G7 ThinQ will come fitted with a 16 mega pixel dual camera, which is pretty much standard in the segment. What might set it apart is that LG is planning to integrate it with the ‘Empathy AI’. We don't yet know how this will enhance photography on the G7. The Empathy AI promises higher integration with the smartphone’s hardware, providing a more intuitive experience.
How LG’s latest fares in one of the most cut-throat segments of the smartphone market will be interesting to observe.
