The United States is sending a third aircraft carrier, the USS Theodore Roosevelt, along with thousands of additional troops to the Middle East, significantly expanding its regional military capabilities amid escalating tensions and discussions regarding Iran's nuclear program.

Hinting that the United States could be preparing for the possibility of a military escalation in the Middle East, two American officials have stated that the US is sending a third aircraft carrier to the region. USS Theodore Roosevelt aircraft carrier strike group to the region, along with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit, will arrive in the Middle East by the end of next month.

The reinforcements are expected to add about 10,000 sailors and marines to U.S.  forces in the region, significantly expanding the United States' military capability in the region. The deployment includes about 6,000 sailors in the carrier strike group and about 4,200 Marines and sailors in the Makin Island Expeditionary Unit and Amphibious Readiness Group.

Upon its arrival, the Theodore Roosevelt will be the third aircraft carrier to operate in the Middle East, joining the USS George H.W. Bush, which arrived in the region in April, and the USS George Washington, which arrived in mid-August and replaced the Abraham Lincoln.

The concentration of three aircraft carriers and additional forces in the region places a significant military force in Washington's hands, capable of providing attack capabilities from the sea, air defense, and support for forces operating in the theatre.

The announcement comes as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that toppling Iran’s regime was Israel’s “primary objective,” a day after discussing Iran with US War Secretary Pete Hegseth during an unannounced visit to Israel.

US President Donald Trump also claimed that though the US was making very good progress with respect to Iran, “all that remains is to make the final decision as to how we want to win”. “Do we want to win in a good way or in a way that is not quite so good?," he said, referring to the US attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities: "We could end the war with Iran now, and say that we have achieved a great accomplishment, but that is not enough for me. We must make sure that they will not be able to have a nuclear weapon in the next five, six, or even ten years."

He said: "Their facilities are now buried under hundreds of tons of rock, yet that is not enough for me, and we must make sure that the nuclear threat does not return."
