Burj Khalifa will no longer be the tallest building in the world. The coveted status will belong to Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, which, when unveiled in August 2028, will beat Burj Khalifa by atleast 172 metres or approximately 564 feet.

As per the latest reports, Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower has reached 430m and 106 levels, which exceeded half the height of Dubai’s Burj  Khalifa. This comes as work restarted in January 2025 after stalling for several years. The structure has reached 107 floors at present.

Jeddah Tower – also known as Burj Jeddah or Jeddah Economic Company Tower – will provide about 530,000 square metres of built area when completed. Besides residential space, the building also has hospitality, office and observation facilities.

Once completed, Jeddah Tower will be 11 times the height of the  Statue of Liberty.

The building will have 59 elevators, comprising 54 single-deck units and five double-deck elevators. Another 12 escalators will serve circulation requirements across the building.

Jeddah Tower’s construction started in 2013 but was paused in  2018 due to labour shortages and the detention of several prominent Saudi businessmen during the country’s 2017 anti-corruption campaign, including figures connected to the development.

Burj Khalifa tickets

A new system has been introduced that allows Indians to easily book tickets to the Burj Khalifa in Dubai using UPI from home. The  UAE's leading payment solution provider, NeoPay, and Emaar Entertainment have partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India to offer this new facility to Indians. With this,  Burj Khalifa has become the first tourist destination in the UAE to accept UPI for online e-commerce transactions. This will help tourists secure their tickets from India through the official website using the UPI apps that are most convenient for them, before they travel to Dubai.
