Amid reports that he threaten to resign from the post of Iranian President,  Masoud Pezeshkian reportedly held a secret meeting with Iran’s new Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

Pezeshkian met with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei in the back seat of a car at an undisclosed location, according to an exclusive report by Iran International. Pezeshkian had stated in mid-May, during a meeting with union representatives, that he had held a two-and-a-half-hour meeting with Mojtaba Khamenei, adding that the meeting took place "in a friendly atmosphere”.

The report quoted sources who said that Mojtaba Khamenei’s office agreed to the meeting after repeated requests from Pezeshkian and his threat to resign, but he was informed that the meeting, contrary to usual procedures, would not be held at the Supreme Leader’s permanent headquarters.

Security guards then transported Pezeshkian to a secret location at an undisclosed site within Tehran, where he met Mojtaba  Khamenei in the back seat of a commercial vehicle with tinted windows. The conversation between them lasted only a few minutes, after which Pezeshkian was asked to leave the place. He was not allowed to shake hands and did not see Khamenei's face.

The meeting took place in such a way that the two sides could only hear each other’s voices.

This treatment angered Pezeshkian, who considered it insulting, according to Iran International. Some employees in the presidential office stated that Pezeshkian, upon his return, wondered whether the person he met in the back seat of the car was indeed the Iranian Supreme Leader, because he only heard his voice and did not see his face. It was unclear whether this question stemmed from his anger or whether he genuinely doubted the identity of the person he had met.

Pezeshkian recently requested another meeting with Mojtaba Khamenei, this time at the Supreme Leader’s residence, but the request has been rejected so far. For about five months, since the Assembly of Experts chose Mojtaba Khamenei as the third Supreme Leader of the Iranian regime, no audio or video recording of him has been released.

Last Sunday, Iran’s Hamshahri newspaper website published a short video claiming that foreign intelligence agencies were able to determine where Mojtaba Khamenei is hiding by analysing sound energy, electricity grid frequencies, and background noise in any audio recording. The video added that intelligence agencies could also, by analysing the resonance of his vocal tract, deduce the extent of his injury or his level of stress, which increased speculation about his health condition.
