Where is Ayatollah Khamenei? Iran Supreme Leader moved to safer location as US airstrikes target locations linked to him

With the United States and Israel unleashing fresh attacks on Iran, the airstrikes have signalled that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei could be among possible targets.

Seven missiles hit a location near the presidential palace in Shemiran to the north of Tehran and near Khamenei's compound, according to Tasnim new agency. Khamenei's offices in Tehran were also struck, reported AP.

Where is Ayatollah Khamenei?

According to a source cited by Reuters, Ayatollah Khamenei is not in Tehran currently and has been moved a safer location.

After the airstrikes, Trump urged Iranians to overthrow Khamenei's regime. "When we are finished, take over your government. It will be yours to take. This will be probably your only chance for generations," the US president said.

Earlier in February, US President Donald Trump told ABC News that Khamenei should be "very worried" amid Washington's massive military buildup in the region.

During the 12-day war in June, Trump said he knows where the "so-called 'Supreme Leader' is hiding." "He is an easy target, but is safe there – We are not going to take him out (kill!), at least not for now," Trump said back then.

After the 12-day war in Iran, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the Iranian Supreme Leader said, "A dictator like Khamenei who stands at the head of a state like Iran and has the horrible goal of destroying Israel – cannot continue to exist."

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahi in June said his government has not ruled out assassination of Khamenei, which can "end the long-running conflict between the US and Iran.
